NICK
ROSSI SET
ON THE OUTSET
LP (180 gram 12" monophonic vinyl)
(FRUSA 9)
Here
'tis- long-awaited (longer than should have been humanely
(sic) possible. The debut long playing slab from the Bay
Area's finest Hammond Organ quartet. A co-release with
our friends at Hammondbeat, Flare offers the hi-fidelity
vinyl version with an alternate (faster) take of "Moonlark",
mastering by Fantasy Records legend george Horn and liner
notes by bandleader Nick Rossi. Here's what our
good
friends over at Dusty Groove in Chicago have to say about
the result:
"For
the record, Nick keeps things clean and lean -- staying
in a mode that's very much like
the best Jack McDuff sides
of the mid 60s -- highly rhythmic grooves on the bottom
that feature lots of sharp-edged changes that really
break from the usual soul jazz organ bag. The combo here
is totally
tight -- with guitar, tenor, and drums snap-stepping
along with Nick's mighty lead on organ! And production
is great
too -- never too bright, and always at the right level
to respect the jazz side of Nick's work, while still
allowing for a bit of deep funk in the bottom."

PAT
JOHNSON
FAMOUS BUTTERFLIES
CD
(FRUSA 8)
Extremely limited pressing of live and unreleased material
from Mr. Johnson, dating back to 1993 with his soul-Americana
group
The Wellsprings
of Hope, a Christmas duet with Penelope Houston (would fit
nicely between White Christmas and A Charlie Brown Christmas-
really!), and four stunning new songs featuring former Byrd
Gene Parsons.

NICK
ROSSI SET
SPOOKY,
PART 1 b/w SPOOKY, PART 2 - 7" single
(FRUSA 7)
Classic
Blue Note-style Hammond groover. Nick has arranged a relaxed
and swinging version of the 1967 smash hit originally
by the Classics IV. This meticulously recorded two-sider
was produced by Carl Rusk of Record Recorders and is a limited
pressing of 500.

Penelope
covers songs by the Pentangle, Colin Blunstone, The Band,
Shocking Blue and the Flying Machine. Featuring the Maydays
(with
Pat Johnson, Alec Palao and John Kent of
the Loved Ones) and backing vocals by Willow Willow and
the
Moore Brothers.

THE
MAYDAYS
THE
VERY LAST TIME b/w YOU DON’T HAVE
TO WAIT - 7" single
(FRUSA 5)
The
sole sonic document of the late, great Maydays- fronted
by Pat Johnson and featuring Alec Palao, Pete Gowdy, Ron
Silva and John Kent (sort of a "Children of Nuggets" supergroup).
Both sides penned by Johnson, "The Very Last Time" is a
mod-pop classic to be, whilst the flip burns slowly, sultrily
and soulfully.

The
Two-Strokes/Green Means Go
"SCOOTER
RAGE 2000"
b/w "COME ON" split 7" single
(FRUSA
4)
Numbered,
limited edition for 2000's Secret Society Scooter Rally
held
in San Francisco. The A-side comes on like the Beach Boys
if they wrote about Vespas instead of cars. You will hear
the actual sound of a red-hot Vespa in action. The flip is
an ultra-retardo garage stomper featuring a vocal that
only
years of whiskey and cigs can color.

The
Shimmer Kids
STRANGE SIGNALS b/w WHISTLE
WHILE YOU WEEP - 7" single
(FRUSA 3)
The Shimmer
Kids are happening on Flare Records with their infectious
ArtPop debut. Utilizing the traditional rock and roll lineup
of theremin, sax, and film loops, The Kids whip up a heady
blend of sounds without ever losing sight of the supreme objective:
a pure pop statement.

The
Sweet Things
IN THE CITY b/w HER SAD LITTLE
WORLD - 7" single
(FRUSA 2)
The Sweet
Things return to the spotlight with their trademark bi-polar
pop sound. Flare's engineer team has coaxed a ripping new
version of "In The City", which highlights Hall
on his Gibson ES and his existentialist take on a field mouse
in the big city.
"Her Sad Little World" is a happy-go-lucky tale
of teenage suicide that shuffles along as innocent and effortless
as a walk down a dirt road kicking fallen Autumn leaves.

Green
Means Go
HANGIN' WITH YOU b/w HUM
GLUM - 7" single (green
vinyl)
(FRUSA 1)
"Like
Jan and Dean singing through a glass-pack muffler" said
one dazed concert-goer. "Like money in
the bank" said the president of Flare Records. Our
chief engineer has captured the sonic wallop of the boys
from Green
Means Go, who were discovered while they were pawning their
guitars for new surf boards. Flare got their gear out of
hoc
and they coughed up these two gems while the surf was flat.
